Completely Fearless - Help Those Who Help Warriors

I'll never forget the morning we walked onto intensive care bright and early for ward rounds as we always did, but this day there were two new faces stood by Wyatt's incubator. We knew what was coming, we turned to look at each other with dread. "Looks like the results are positive," we said to each other, almost in sync. We were introduced to the team and taken to a different room. The fear took over my body. I didn't know much about cystic fibrosis (CF), but what I did know is it was life-limiting.

As we sat down, all of these words flew around the room, making it feel like the walls were collapsing around us, until we heard, "Luckily, we have a new medication that means Wyatt should be able to live a long life." The sudden relief felt like something I can't even put into words. We were told that just a few years ago, we would be having a very different conversation. But thanks to the Trust, we didn't have to have that conversation.

The Trust makes such a massive difference to the lives of CF families like us. From offering emergency financial grants in dark moments to funding groundbreaking, life-saving research for the future, they ensure no family has to walk this path alone. While we were living in hospital, there was so much worry. Worry about Wyatt and his health, worry about each hour that passed, worry about what the next day, hour, or minute would hold. But there was also worry about where we would go when Wyatt was so sick. We couldn't stay sat beside his incubator round the clock (trust me, I tried). It breaks your heart to walk away knowing how fragile your tiny baby is and how everything can change in a matter of seconds. What if we aren't there when he needs us the most? What if we're too far from him?

That's where The Sick Children's Trust came in. They have a house on the hospital grounds called Crawford House. This house for us, like many other families we met along this brutal journey, was our lifeline. It gave us a safe place to rest our heads, wash our clothes, and catch our breath, all while being just moments away if Wyatt needed us.

Crawford House is entirely reliant on donations to run. It costs them around £40 a day to support a family in a private room right on the same hospital grounds as their poorly child. Because they kept us close to Wyatt when it mattered most, it is important to us to support them now, helping ensure another family has a lifeline when their world is turned upside down.
